Chamber honored at the 2011 Historic Preservation Awards
We are very excited and proud to announce that the Richmond Chamber has been selected to receive an award at the 2011 Richmond Historic Preservation Awards Ceremony from The Richmond Historic Preservation Commission and National Park Service. The Chamber will be presented with the National Park Service Home Front Award for their many years of hosting the annual USO Dance and Home Front Festival by the Bay. We would love for all our members to attend this special occasion.View the full list of awards here.The ceremony will take place on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 440 Civic Center Plaza, Richmond. Get directions here. The awards ceremony will be followed by a reception across the Plaza at the Richmond Art Center, catered by the Contra Costa College Culinary Arts Department. Celebrate the new Richmond Financial Opportunity Center
Bay Area LISC and Rubicon Programs invite you to join them on Tuesday, April 26, from 10:30am-12pm, as they celebrate the launch of Rubicon's new Financial Opportunity Center located at 101 Broadway Avenue, Richmond.

In December 2010, Rubicon Programs was awarded a three-year federal Social Innovation Fund (SIF) grant from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). Rubicon is one of 47 community organizations across the nation to win this highly competitive award from LISC. The Financial Opportunity Center will provide a host of employment and financial stability services to help Richmond area residents find jobs, reduce debt, gain financial literacy and build assets. The Center will enable us to continue advancing our efforts to prepare very low-income people to achieve financial independence, and also meet the needs of re-entry men and women in West Contra Costa County. Contra Costa College's Annual Job Fair
Contra Costa College Job Placement Office is hosting its annual Job Fair on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Many of the local businesses and employers will be present such as, Chevron, East Bay Regional Park District, Girl Scouts, United Parcel Service, and many more.Interested job seekers are asked to come dressed for an official interview with at least 25 copies of their resumes in hand. A celebration honoring Fred D. Jackson

Seeking nominations on reducing homelessness
Do you know individuals or organizations who have helped lead the way in reducing homelessness in Contra Costa County or elsewhere in the Bay Area?If so, please consider nominating them for one or more of four Awards for Reducing Homelessness. John Lozier, MSSW, Executive Director of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, is presenting the Awards on Tuesday, May 17 at the Advocacy Luncheon of Saffron Strand's annual conference, "Sustainable Solutions to Homelessness: Integrating Employment, Health Care & Housing" at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium and Convention Center. Each Award for Reducing Homelessness includes a $50 gift card. Winners also receive free registration to "Sustainable Solutions to Homelessness" ($275 value).
Homeless Citizen Achievement AwardHonoring a homeless Contra Costa citizen who has made extraordinary progress, against all odds, in improving his or her job skills, employability, and economic independence.
Homelessness Program Achievement AwardHonoring a government, non-profit, or faith-based program's extraordinary performance over the past year in helping to reduce homelessness in Contra Costa County.
"Voice of the Homeless" Media AwardHonoring the leadership of a San Francisco Bay Area corporate or individual print, broadcast, or web-based media source in reporting on homelessness issues most accurately and fairly over the past year.
Homelessness Advocacy in Action AwardHonoring one person anywhere in the Bay Area who has been highly effective in advocating and achieving positive results with responsible, actionable, and sustainable solutions for homelessness.
For each Award nomination, please (1) identify the Award, (2) provide your nominee's full name, phone number, and e-mail address, (3) describe why your nominee should be honored with the Award, noting how your nominee meets or exceeds the intention of the Award, and (4) as nominator, provide your full name, phone number, and e-mail address.
